Today in our college we had an important talk about measles prevention and discussed the symptoms of this disease. We emphasized how important vaccination is to prevent measles and also paid attention to the early signs of the disease.
Measles is a widespread acute infectious disease, occurring mainly in children and characterized by fever, catarrhal inflammation of the mucous membranes of the nose, eyes and throat, and the appearance of a spotted rash on the skin.
Symptoms of measles.
The incubation period, i.e. the time from infection to the appearance of the first symptoms, lasts from 7 to 14 days. It is important to remember that the disease does not begin with the appearance of a rash, but with cold symptoms: a temperature of 38-40 degrees, severe weakness, loss of appetite, dry cough, runny nose. Later, conjunctivitis (inflammation of the mucous membrane of the eye) appears.
Approximately 2-4 days after the first symptoms of the disease, small whitish rashes appear on the mucous membrane of the cheeks (opposite the molars).
On the 3-5th day of the disease, a rash appears in the form of bright spots that tend to merge with each other. At first it is found behind the ears and on the forehead, then quickly spreads lower to the face, neck, body and limbs. Small pink spots of the rash quickly increase in size, acquire an irregular shape, sometimes merge.
During the period of maximum rash, 2-3 days after the appearance of the rash, the temperature can rise again to 40.5 °.
The rash lasts 4-7 days. In place of the spots, foci of brown pigmentation remain, after 2 weeks the skin becomes clear.
Remember that proper vaccination is our common responsibility to society. Be healthy!
